Many people believe that sitting at a desk in an office is a safe job and there is no risk of injury. This is not true. There are a variety of health issues that you can suffer from if you don't aren't sitting at your desk correctly. These include:

Because poor ergonomics can result in a work injury, there are a few steps that you should follow when sitting down at your desk for the day.
Step 1: Find Your Natural Posture
Posture is an essential part of avoiding workplace injuries. When you sit in your chair, your feet should be on the floor, your shoulders should be relaxed, and you should lean back just a bit.
Step 2: Keyboard and Mouse Placement
The placement of your keyboard and your mouse is essential to avoid developing health issues.
- Height: Your keyboard should be 1 to 2 inches above your thighs. You can either change the height of your desk, adjust the height of your chair, or you can use a pull-out keyboard tray.
- Tilt: You should not use the keyboard kickstand. This will create too much of a slope which can cause painful issues.
- Position: Your mouse should be no further than shoulder distance away from the keyboard.
Step 3: Position Your Screen Properly
Proper screen height would have your gaze land on the address bar. To avoid reflections on the screen which can cause eye problems, you should tilt your monitor down just a bit.
Step 4: Get Up and Move
You should not stay in your seat for hours without getting up. It is best to get up and stretch your legs every hour. You don't need to take a long walk. Just a quick walk to the water cooler or just a quick walk around the office every hour is enough. Frequent walks will combat health issues associated with sitting for long periods of time.
